Saeco Superautomatica Espresso Machine Vintage 1985
This 1985 Original Saeco Superautomatica Espresso Machine may be the last one on Earth... And it's very clean & working! The machine was manufactured in 1985, in Italy, and the hand-typed owner's manual was printed in 1989. Notice the "patent pending" indicating that this original Saeco hadn't yet hit the big time... But as we all know Philips Saeco has gone on to be the leader in all things espresso and coffee making.
A bit of history here... In the beginning, there was the manual espresso coffee, where a barista manually pulled down a lever to press the grounds into espresso. Arm strength was most important to get the proper bar strength required for a truly good espresso. Moving on, in the 1940's, things changed for us espresso lovers when an Italian inventor created a user-friendly, not at all exhausting, fully automatic espresso machine.
With this new invention, instead of having to manually pull down a lever to activate the piston, an electric pump was used instead. With that invention, all that was needed was a press of a button, and espresso was delivered right into your cup. Looking forward to 1985, Saeco brought the Superautomatica to the home user. And here is the result of all that inventing, strategy and the birth of the Saeco Brand you recognize today.
It is very clean, and has been tested to grind and brew as it did in 1985. There is a chip on the lower, front corner of the bean hopper (see photos) which is only cosmetic.
